International Women’s Day 2021 theme is #ChooseToChallenge:
‘A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change. So let’s all choose to challenge. How will you help forge a gender equal world? Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.’
IWD calls to action are important and relevant. None of us is immune to bias in the workplace, home, or society at large. Our lived experiences and resilience and achievements often exist despite the limitations placed on us. Challenging the status quo is part and parcel of daily life.
Among the CAAL team, we’d like to think everyone is working to expand access to knowledge, practice, and rights of women in the places where we work. We acknowledge that change in some of these places is difficult and currently under severe attack. However, we acknowledge that we strive to recognise our colleagues’ contribution and demonstrate positive support for their work and the communities where they live and where this work is conducted.
This year we honour a few of the CAAL team who have and continue to work for change. Each of them challenges the status quo in their own way. Through their work ethic they actively elevate their professions, encourage and support their female colleagues and bring out the best in each other. We believe in teamwork and collaboration and appreciate the men who respect and support their female colleagues and challenge future generations to work against structural bias.
Thank you everyone who participated this year and for your tireless work to achieve gender balance in the workplace and communities where you spend your time. Thank you for blazing a trail for future generations and for setting the bar high and encouraging us to reach it!!
